Students with Physical Disabilities

Students with physical or mental disabilities need a variety of aids in both a resoutce and inclusive settings. AT will give them the opportunity to access the curriculum.

Students with physical handicaps need proper positioning, the proper tools, modifications, and adaptations to be successful, so be creative.

Emerging Writers

Reading

Some students struggle to read or comprehend a reading assignment. Some have a physical disability that make it difficult to access media.

Predictable texts, book adapted for page turning, electronic books, single word scanners, talking electronic devices / software, text to speech software, picture symbols and use of content boards are some of the assistance that may be needed.

Vision, Hearing, and Speech Impairments

Many students have difficutly putting their thoughts on paper. Problems with  handwriting, spelling, grammar, and  organization may be overcome with the use of AT. A computer, Neo, adapted keyboards, speech to text, word prediction, or picture supported text can help your student become a successful writer.

Students with vision, hearing and speech impairments can stay in a regular classroom and learn at the same pace as their peers. They will need modifications and the proper devices. These students need to be given the same opportunity as their peers even though every classroom assignment may need to be modified. AAC devices can be used con-currently with other speech training.
